(cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] baby_names)

Every year, my local newspaper has this giant section devoted to the babies who were born over the past year. Being a giant geek, for the past three years, I've compiled all the baby names to see which ones were most popular. Keep in mind that these statistics represent people in my city who have the money and the inclination to put their kid's picture and name into this special feature thing... Anyway, that said:

Out of 664 babies born in 2008...

The number in brackets is the actual number of babies (out of 664) that were named that. Many of the names are tied; for example, there were ten boys named Lucas, and ten boys named Nicholas.

And my vote for the worst names for 2008, for boys: Jaxon, Ayrton-Anthony, Braylon, Broden, Chaseton (probably THE worst), and Zaidan.

And for girls: Finnleigh, Braylin, Gracyn, Jadyn, Jorja, Kailey-Ann, Paighton, Pyper.

Jack! :D

Maximus. XD

Leigh is one of my middle names. :P

William's in the middle names thing twice.

Gracyn is just weird. Overall, though, the good people of Windsor seem pretty sensible in their choices of names. I find it interesting that David and Daniel each only got one, though.

Whoa! How did William get in there twice? And with two different numbers, as well... I'll have to check that out.

I figured it out! XD

That last 'William' was supposed to be 'Robert'. I have no idea why I wrote 'William' instead of 'Robert', but now it's fixed.

We need to make an investigation song.

Aha! Well, that figures.

I should so much rather talk to you than do my homework. This is why I have not been doing my homework, and this is why I'm in kind of a mess this weekend. Hurrah.

I'm supposed to be doing homework right now, too. Well, reading. Lots and lots of reading about Canadian political science. Which I'm sure will be extremely interesting and everything, but, uh... why do something productive when you can procrastinate?

But you're already the resident expert on Canadian politics! Tell them this.

I'm really curious to know what your reaction to my latest entry is...

On the one hand, it's nice to have people like your name enough to use it, but on the other hand, do you really want a ton of Victorias running around? It was always mighty confusing to me when I ended up in a class with another Abby. ;p

Yay for me. :D I've always liked my name, even if "Abigail" at least has never felt like it fits me. Something about the "ale" sound at the end: plus people annoy the heck out of me by saying it "Abbygail." It's supposed to have an "ih" sound, so the second syllable matches the fourth one. You can't do that with Abbygail, unless you put a gay eel in my name.

My Grandpa says it "Abbehgehl," which is fine for being 95.

Well that's cool, because they did it on purpose. ;p Also, there's a nice pause in there, so it's kind of like how Ruthanne has a different feel than Ruth Anne.

A person tends to get a little picky about it after years of people calling her Abbygail Lumber, lol. (And yet what would I name my own kids? Things like Sinead. I am so mean.)

OH. MY. GOD. It...hurts. Honestly. Every time I start to believe that Windsor can't get anymore white trash...something like this happens. JADYN. JORJA! PYYYYYYYYYYYYYPER. CHASETON?! Brb, going to modify my birth certificate to say I was born in another city. DX
