(x-posted to [livejournal.com profile] baby_names)

Every year, my newspaper has a giant section with all the babies born in the previous year. Since I am insane, I like to use this to compile statistics for the most popular baby names in my area. Note that, firstly, this doesn't represent every single baby born in the area, only those whose parents had the money and/or inclination to do this; and secondly, that this represents only babies born in my particular area: Windsor and Essex County in Southwestern Ontario, Canada.

If you're curious, or want to compare, here are the entries I've made for previous years:

2008

2007

2006

Note: The number in brackets is the total number of babies with that name. I have combined alternate spellings, and listed any alternate spellings below the name, along with the number of babies with that spelling.

There were 687 babies total.

At least it wasn't a girl, then it might have been Renesmee!

We should make a pact... when we have kids, whoever has a boy first has to name it Edward Jacob, and whoever has a girl has to name is Renesmee. HAHAHA.

I love baby names! It's come to me that I have very different taste from 99% of people who speak English and name their babies, but every once in a long while I see something beautiful. I liked Milania, Melina, and Thea. From the guy's names I like Liam and Theo.

Don't worry. If I had it my way, my future kids would be named Ptolemy, Ignatius, and Jean-Baptiste.

My favourite name for a boy is Evander, and I would actually use it.

Well, since I like the names Penelope and Constantine, they can keep Ptolemy and Ignatius company. I don't know about Jean-Baptiste, though... I'm not sure I have any French baby names in my list. XD

Evander is really cool. Do you know where it's from?

It's from Roman mythology. There's also a boxer named Evander Holyfield, which I didn't know until I mentioned the name to someone, and they said, "Like the boxer?" But hey, I guess there're worse things to be associated with than a boxer...

Celebriene

Wow, that's neat that you saw this! I don't know if you'll see this comment, but I have to ask, is Celebriene a Lord of the Rings reference at all?

Sure is.. I decided to go with this spelling because it's a bit more feminine in my opinion ;) A big name for such a little girl! We call her Brie.. I hope my girls don't hate me when they grow up.. they all have unusual names!!

Все отлично сделано!
